CJP Protest Turns Violent: Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav Detained Outside PM's Residence

New Delhi: Congress leaders marched toward the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi and staged a sit-in protest against the alleged crackdown on students. The demonstration saw the participation of several senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Pawan Khera, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Deepender Hooda, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Why they detained?

In Monday's demonstration, several protesters and police personnel were injured. Security remains heightened across the national capital. Union Health Minister JP Nadda also visited Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital, while Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met injured students at RML Hospital. Amid the clashes, Rahul Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav have been detained from outside the PM residence. 

What did Rahul Gandhi say during the protest?

Taking to social media platform X during the march, Rahul Gandhi said the party was marching to the Prime Minister's residence to demand answers from Narendra Modi. He alleged that the government had unleashed brutality on students the previous day, but was refusing to take responsibility for it or allow a discussion on the matter in Parliament.

In his post, Gandhi wrote that they were marching to the Prime Minister's home to seek accountability for the brutality inflicted on students, accusing the government of avoiding both responsibility and a parliamentary debate on the issue. He said the Prime Minister and Home Minister should resign for having ruined the future of the country's youth.
